Follow One Pixel to Your Eye

One last journey. Follow a single dot from on/off wires all the way to light your eye sees — redrawn so fast that flashing lights look like a steady, moving picture.

Walk the pixel down the pipeline

  1. 1 On/off wires 8 bits per color
  2. 2 Three numbers 0–255 each
  3. 3 A rule picks them the GPU worker
  4. 4 Written to the notebook the framebuffer
  5. 5 Three tiny lights the screen
  6. 6 Light your eye sees one dot of color

Redraw speed

At 1×/sec you can watch the screen redraw, line by line. At 60×/sec it's too fast to see — your eye is fooled into one steady picture.

Nothing in the chain was ever "the picture" — it's bits the whole way, refreshed so fast that flashing lights become a smooth, moving image.
