Zoom In: It's Three Real Lights

The mixing is real. Under a magnifying glass, every dot on a screen is three tiny lights — red, green, blue — sitting right next to each other, too small to tell apart.

Your eye blends the three lights into one color. White is all three on; black is all three off.

Most screens use red, green, and blue dots — but the exact pattern differs (phones and OLED TVs arrange them differently than these neat stripes). The idea is always the same: three tiny lights make one dot of color.
